“Art soothes the soul. The Arts Center can be a draw. It’s a gorgeous place that is a good asset. The possibilities are nice for the city.”

“What to me is the real story is that Mr. McMillan is the first person in the contemporary history of Mechanicville to restore an historic building. He saved the building. This is a real event that sparked urban renewal in the community, and added a function to the southern part of the county, not just Mechanicville.”

"The Arts Center on the Hudson is an architectural jewel that was thankfully preserved and enhanced in our community. A remarkable medley of outstanding performances and exhibits has been enjoyed at the Center by diversified audiences of all ages. Friendships have been formed and camaraderie has been built among regular attendees. Each time we leave the Center following a performance our spirits have been renewed, and we find ourselves anxiously awaiting the next event. We are hopeful that more area residents will allow this “gemstone” to enlighten and brighten their hearts, too."

“Thank you so much for partnering with Mechanicville Area Community Center, and SDI to put on the wonderful circus again this year. For the past 4 years the children’s circus is truly a highlight of our year. The children look forward each year to this event. The fiery sun T-Shirts you gave our ‘Cirque Kids’ can be seen on scooters, playgrounds, bicycles and skateboards all around Mechanicville.”

“My husband and I are regular visitors at the wonderful events at the Arts Center on the Hudson.
My husband is an architect and he was helpful in the initial stages of the renovation project. He loves the Gothic architecture, I love the acoustics!”

“As someone in my early twenties here in Saratoga County I am always on the look-out for a place where something exciting is going on. I am really impressed with the wide spectrum of what takes place at the Arts Center on the Hudson. From a classical Harp Concert to a Kiss Concert: how wild is that?
The owners are not stuck with one idea of what art is. They reach out and provide us with many expressions of what a culture is. I’m a guitarist. I may even perform there one day! “

Imagine yourself on a stage before an audience of sixty adults and children. Imagine audience members calling out a fictitious location and a pretend occupation for you to act out “on the spot.” Would you be nervous?
Most people would be terrified, but not the members of “The Improv Club,” a group of middle-aged experienced stand-up and improvisational comics, who appeared Saturday night, May 23rd at The Arts Center on the Hudson, located in Olde Saint Luke’s Church on South Main in Mechanicville. “We like taking risks,” says Terrie Gifford, (Schaghticoke), producer of the show. “Consequently, the ‘unknown’ does not generate a fear factor with us.”
The Improv Club, based in Clifton Park, has appeared all over the Capital District from Delmar to Glens Falls bringing a special kind of impromptu fun to audiences. Each show is unique because the audience interaction and suggestions, which determine the scenes, are different in every venue.
“There is a human element that is very authentic with this kind of performance,” says Jaimen McMillan, owner of The Arts Center on the Hudson with his wife, Dorothea. “We can see ourselves in their shoes and that makes us relate to the players.”
